Kampala, March 08, 2026 – Excitement and determination dominated the greens at Uganda Golf Club on Sunday as over 100 young golfers from across the country converged for the grand finale of the NCBA Junior Golf Series, a programme that has grown into a crucial pathway for nurturing Uganda’s junior golf talent.
Addressing participants, parents, and officials, NCBA Chief Executive Officer, Mark Muyobo, described the finale as the culmination of a successful season that continues to fuel the growth of junior golf in Uganda.
“Launched in 2021, the NCBA Junior Golf Series has evolved from a handful of competitions into a nationwide calendar that combines tournaments, coaching clinics, and mentorship programmes. Today, we celebrate the commitment, skill, and discipline of young golfers who are embracing opportunities to grow both on and off the course,” Muyobo said.
This year’s finale brought together boys and girls aged between five and 18, representing clubs from urban and peri-urban centres. Muyobo emphasized that the series provides a structured pathway for young golfers to acquire technical skills, mental resilience, and sportsmanship needed to compete at higher levels.
To support promising talent, NCBA sponsored 10 juniors from nine clubs this season, covering training and entries for regional competitions. These opportunities, Muyobo noted, are critical for exposing Uganda’s juniors to higher standards of play.
Uganda’s junior golf talent continues to make waves on the international stage. Seventeen-year-old Peter Mayende recently represented the country at the Annual UAE Golf Championship, a prestigious event on the U.S. Kids Golf international circuit, held at the Al Hamra Golf Club in Ras Al-Khaimah. The tournament attracts some of the most competitive junior golfers globally and provides a platform for young players to gain valuable experience and exposure.
The NCBA Junior Golf Series, modelled on the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship, also offers top performers pathways to global tournaments such as the Rome Classic in Italy and the Big 5 Junior Golf Championship in South Africa. Exposure to these competitions not only tests technical skills but also broadens young players’ perspectives and cultivates resilience under pressure.
Les Brown, NCBA Junior Golf and U.S. Kids coach, reported marked improvements among participants in course management, competitive poise, and understanding of tournament protocols. For many juniors, the series provides their first formal experience with scoring systems, etiquette, and the discipline that underpins competitive golf.
“The success of this season is the result of collaboration among clubs, volunteer coaches, parents, and corporate partners. These young golfers are not just improving their swings — they are learning the values of discipline, teamwork, and resilience that will serve them throughout life,” Brown said.
He said the NCBA Junior Golf Series has once again highlighted the depth of Uganda’s junior talent and the importance of structured development programmes. For many participants, the finale is a stepping stone toward representing Uganda regionally and internationally, and a testament to what dedication, mentorship, and opportunity can achieve.
